Lanny Davis: IRS Should Have Special Prosecutor

Former Clinton White House Special Counsel Lanny Davis argued that the IRS should appoint a special prosecutor on Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends.” “I think as a crisis manager, the IRS e-mail, missing e-mail story raises so many questions that a special counsel that reports to Eric Holder, not an independent counsel, from a standpoint of public optics would be a good way to instill confidence in that investigation.” Davis said.

Davis added that he believed there is no evidence of political targeting by the IRS, and that there is no legal need for a special prosecutor, but Davis said that the lack of explanation for the missing e-mails has “bothered” him. He also agreed that if there was a Republican in the White House, Democrats would demand a special prosecutor.
