CNBC Reporter Challenges Obama's Economic Numbers During Interview

CNBC’s Steve Liesman challenged President Barack Obama’s claims that his administration’s policies improved the economy during a Thursday interview.

“If you think about where we were when I came into office and we are now, it’s pretty hard to find an economic measure we are not significantly better off,” Obama said, but Liesman countered.

When Liesman pointed out the median household income did not improv during Obama’s term, the president agreed — but blamed globalization, technology, and trickle-down economics for the six-year squeeze on the middle class, not his policies.

“There are policies that can be put in place to help,” Obama said, but did not elucidate. The typical household made the same $50,000 in 2013 as it did over a generation ago.
