Beck responded to Will’s argument that the United States can easily assimilate “eight-year-old criminals with their teddy bears” by stating “what a straw man argument that is,” and pointing to the gang members, adults, and people from nations that are known supporters of terrorism who are also crossing the southern border.
Beck also criticized Will’s invocation of Emma Lazarus’ words “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” which are inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, by pointing out that Ellis Island was set up for people to immigrate legally, not for people who came into the country illegally.
Beck’s producers critiqued Will’s assertion that the influx of illegal immigrants could easily be absorbed into the country if the illegals were spread out evenly by stating that Will would never accept such an argument if it were used to justify more government spending.
