MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski: Obama Has 'Done Great Things' on Race

President Barack Obama has done great things on race, according to Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski.

During a conversation about the tough situation Obama finds himself in with the ongoing situation in Ferguson, MO, co-host Joe Scarborough pointed out the fine line Obama has had to walk on race.

To which Brzezinski responded, “I think he’s also done great things.”

Partial transcript as follows:

SCARBOROUGH: Front page of the Washington Post. Gene, this is another one of those situations that this president, all presidents find themselves in, but this president especially. So he sends Eric Holder, so the right-wingers are going to be angry that he’s sending Eric Holder. The left-wingers are going to be angry because he is not coming himself. And if he doesn’t send anybody, then everybody goes, this president’s disengaged.

ROBINSON: It’s a total no-win situation.

SCARBOROUGH: It’s a tough — this is not a hurricane where he comes and he’s welcomed by everybody. This is a tough situation that the president

ROBINSON: Right.

SCARBOROUGH: And we’ve seen this with race before. This president has been extra careful when issues of race came around and in a way that frustrated a lot of civil rights leaders.

BRZEZINSKI: I think he’s also done great things. So —

SCARBOROUGH: No, I’m not being critical of him. I’m just saying this is a really tough line for this president to hold.
