Dem Senator: Obama Needs Congress' Blessing on ISIS

“Look, if there was credible evidence that ISIL had plans to attack the United States or there was an imminent threat against the U.S. embassy, the president can always act to defend the nation or defend embassy or American personnel,” Kaine said. “But right now even the head of the National Counterterrorism Center said there is no credible intel right now suggesting ISIL attacks on the U.S. That’s where it’s so important and I believe constitutionally mandatory the president get the blessings of Congress for the mission that he outlined to the American people last Wednesday.”

Kaine went on to point out that the mission laid out by Obama a week earlier was a long-term mission, to which he and his Democratic colleague Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also justifies the claim that Obama should seek out approval from the Congress.
