Huelskamp: Amnesty, Tax Increases Could Happen in Lame Duck

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) stated that tax increases and amnesty for illegal immigrants could be part of legislation passed in the lame duck session of Congress on Monday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”

“In an attempt to get out of town, the Republican majority in the House and those in the Senate that voted for it [said] ‘Hey, you know what, we’re going to keep doing what we did for the last year, and do it for another two months’…so then they can come back in the lame duck…you’ll have people that just lost their election, get to come back and declare war, get to come back and fund ObamaCare, get to come back and raise taxes. I think they want to do a tax increase after the election, I think they might want to do amnesty after the election’” he said.

Huelskamp added that Republican leadership voted for a continuing resolution to keep the government running through October because of fears that a shutdown could cost the party in the 2014 elections while criticizing them for not having a strategy for the lame duck session.
