Obama: Canada, US Have to Be Entirely in Sync on Dealing with Terrorism

Wednesday in response to the coordinated shooting attacks in Ottawa, Ontario, President Barack Obama said, “When it comes to dealing with terrorist activity Canada and the United States have to be entirely in sync.”

Linking the attack to a recent incident where a man with radical Islamic ties ran down two Canadian soldiers  with his car, Obama said, “Just two days ago a Canadian soldier had been killed in an attack. We now know that another young man was killed today. I expressed on the behalf of the American people, our condolences to the family and to the Canadian people as a whole.”

“We have to remain vigilante when it comes to dealing with these kinds of acts of violence or terror,” he continued. “I pledge, as always to make sure our national security team will coordinate closely with Canada. Not only is Canada one of our closest allies in the world but they’re our neighbors and friends. There is a lot of interaction between Canada and the United States, where we have such a long border and it is very important, I think, for us to recognize that when it comes to dealing with terrorist activity that Canada and the United States have to be entirely in sync.”

“Obviously we’re all shaken by it but we’re going to do everything we can to make sure we’re standing side by side with Canada during this time,” he added.
