Barkley: One Reason Black People Won't Be Successful Is Because of Other Black People

In an appearance on 94 WIP Philadelphia radio’s “Afternoons with Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis,” former NBA star Charles Barkley criticized so-called “unintelligent” black people who castigate fellow blacks for not being black enough.

Barkley was specifically asked about Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, to which Barkley responded by attacking black critics of successful black people for “being too white.”

“Well, unfortunately as I tell my white friends, we as black people – we’re never going to be successful, not because of you white people but because of other black people,” Barkley said. “When you’re black, you have to deal with so much crap in your life from other black people. It’s a dirty dark secret. I’m glad it’s coming out. It comes out every few years.”

“One reason we’re never going to be successful as a whole is because of other black people,” he added.

“There are a lot of black people who are unintelligent, who don’t have success — it’s best to knock a successful black person down because they’re intelligent,” Barkley said. “They speak well, they do well in school, and they’re successful.”
