Krauthammer: Obama ‘Hoping’ GOP Shuts Down Gov’t

Columnist Charles Krauthammer argued that President Obama was “hoping” he will goad Republicans into shutting down the government over his executive action on immigration on Friday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel.

“This is all about political positioning. This is a president who’s willing to sacrifice a very important Constitutional principle of the separation of powers, to create a president which he knows he’s creating, doing something that he has said 20 times publicly he is not allowed to do in order to gain advantage with a constituency. And I think it’s a travesty that the important line of his speech last night was Obama saying ‘Congress certainly shouldn’t shut down our government again just because we disagree on this.’ This is what he’s trying to do politically” he stated.

Krauthammer continued, “he got shellacked in the election, he becomes irrelevant, he’s a lame duck, he lost the Senate he has no control of the agenda. what have we been talking about all week exclusively? Obama and immigration. That’s what he wants, and he’s hoping that he will get a repeat of what happened with Obamacare. He will not. There will not be a shutdown, there won’t be impeachment.”
