In a speech about the current spending bill that passed the House on Thursday from the floor of the U.S. Senate, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to allow for a vote on an amendment that would block the announced executive action by President Barack Obama on immigration policy.
“I have an amendment,” Sessions said. “I wanted to offer it to this bill. It would simply say that Congress is going to fund the entire discretionary account in this country, but we’re not going to provide money to allow the President of the United States to execute an unlawful, illegal amnesty.”
“And we absolutely have a duty not to fund—a responsibility not to fund—programs that violate law, violate the Constitution, allow the President to eviscerate immigration law, and at the same time allow him to create an entirely new scheme of immigration law,” he added.
