Allen West: Obama, Progressives Believe in Expanding the Safety Net into a Safety 'Hammock'

On Fox Business Network’s “Cavuto” on Wednesday, former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) commented on the push to expand government benefits from President Barack Obama and other progressive elected officials.

“Americans are benevolent,” West said. “Americans believe in the safety net. But we want people to bounce up and continue to climb the ladder of success. It is when you see people such as President Obama and other progressives and you have a problem in New York City with your new mayor as a matter of fact, they believe in a hammock and they believe they should be able to take care people for the rest of their lives and that is how they get that voting patronage from them. Look at the Obama phones. Look how President Obama has redone the requirements of the welfare reform. It was part of the Clinton administration. So, this is not about doing what is best for Americans. It is really immoral what is happening because we are making Americans so dependent, so despondent that they have to lean to big government to be their caretaker.”
