Kristol on Christie: You Cannot Let the Liberal Media Decide Who Is an 'Incredible' GOP Candidate

On Laura Ingraham's Monday radio show, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol warned Republicans not to let the liberal media build up and tear down their candidates, regardless of how one might feel about those candidates this far ahead of an election.

“You cannot let the liberal media decide who sort of gets to be an incredible Republican candidate,” Kristol said. “He’s governor of New Jersey. People seem to be forgetting that. They have decided he won reelection, now he’s running for president, you know? It is really important in my view that he be a good governor for two years. If he is a good governor in terms of policy and he stays popular – but if he does actual conservative reforms beyond what he’s done so far, or at least fight for them in the state legislature, I think that would show, ‘You know what? He’s a serious guy interested in governing.’ His staff got a little out of hand in the election campaign, but that’s trivial compared to everything else. I guess I would tell him to govern effectively.”
