George Will: Bob Gates Produced 'a Somewhat Schizophrenic Book'

During the “All-Star Panel” segment of FNC’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist George Will says former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates’ forthcoming book send mixed messages.

“Bob Gates is one of the great public figures of the last 50 years. He may not be a great author because he seems to have produced a somewhat schizophrenic book, judging by the excerpts, which are ample at this point. He says the president is failing to lead but has made a decision to go after bin Laden one of the most courageous -- the most courageous decision Gates has seen in the White House, and he served every president from Nixon to this one with the exception of Clinton. It’s a clash of cultures in a way. He’s a national security lifer. He’s a cold warrior, who will tell you with a smile that he was -- when the Russians were occupying Afghanistan, he was sending Stinger missiles in to the people we’re now fighting. He’s been around forever, and it’s just I think a clash of cultures with the community organizer from Chicago.”
