White House ‘Mad as Hell’ about VA Hospital Delays, No One Fired
The White House chief of staff says the President is, “Madder than hell” over delays at VA hospitals, reports USA Today. These delays have been reported to have contributed to the death of veterans. According to CNN, at least 40 veterans died waiting for care at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system alone.
In an interview with Face The Nation, White House Chief of Staff, Dennis McDonough, told CBS, Obama is, “Demanding that we get to the bottom of the exact allegation that you’re talking about as it relates to whether veterans are getting the timely access to care that they have earned.”
Despite the allegations that veterans hospitals, “Are manipulating waiting lists to hide long delays” the Department of Veterans Affairs has failed to call for the resignation of department secretary, Eric Shinseki. Shinseki, a four-star general, was appointed to office under Obama in 2009.
Thursday, at the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Shinseki commented that he is “Mad as hell” over, the allegation that his department contributed to the death of veterans. Adding, that despite the reported delays, “Overall, the VA system is good.”
However, this assertion has come under heavy criticism from veterans. Breitbart writer, and 30 year US army veteran, Colonel Ken Allard, comments that, “If you have a choice between going to a dumpster or to a VA hospital, head for the dumpster every time.”
