HOUSTON, Texas — Texas’ Attorney General Greg Abbott and State Senator Wendy Davis–both gubernatorial candidates–will debate on Friday in the state’s Rio Grande Valley at 6 p.m. The debate will reportedly have a strong focus on immigration, which is fitting given that the Republican and Democrat will be debating near the site of this year’s border crisis along the Texas-Mexico border.
Education is also expected to be a discussed issue, according to the El Paso Times.
The candidates will be allowed one minute to answer each question, as well as 45 seconds to respond to their opponent’s answers. They will also be allowed to ask each other questions.
According to The Monitor, the debate’s moderators will be Carlos Sanchez, editor of the McAllen Monitor; Ryan Wolf from KGBT-TV in the valley; and Dalila Garza from Telemundo 40 in the valley.
Not only will this mark the first time Abbott and Davis have debated each other during the gubernatorial race, but also the first time that a such a debate has been held in the Rio Grande Valley.
