Texas Public Policy Foundation Event to Kick Off Legislative Session

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), a non-profit free market think tank based in Austin, has announced plans for its thirteenth annual Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature. The event will be held January 7 – 9, 2015 at the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol, just a few days before the Texas Legislature gathers to kick off the 84th Legislative Session. Breitbart Texas will have several reporters in attendance.

According to TPPF, Policy Orientation is “one of the nation’s top policy conferences,” and has sold out every year. Last year, approximately 1,100 people were in attendance, including almost 100 Texas Legislators and hundreds of legislative staffers, and speakers included Texas Governor Rick Perry, Attorney General and now Governor-elect Greg Abbott, Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and several other potential 2016 presidential candidates including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby also participated in a panel on immigration and border security issues.

“What happens in Texas doesn’t stay in Texas. The Texas model of low tax, low government spending, and limited regulation is successful and the policies Texas makes impact the nation and the world,” TPPF Communications Director Caroline Espinosa told Breitbart Texas. “The Foundation’s 13th Annual Policy Orientation will provide legislators, their staff, and interested individuals an opportunity to get to the heart of the critical issues facing Texas and America. As Texas enters a new era, lawmakers, policy experts, and engaged citizens will come together at Policy Orientation to examine the challenges and opportunities facing the Lone Star State and map out the next steps for achieving Texas’ promise for generations to come.”

This year’s schedule includes thirty-five panel discussions on a variety of topics, including criminal justice, fiscal policy, school choice, energy regulation, Obamacare, tax reform, immigration and border security, and the environment.  Breitbart Texas will provide coverage of the policy debates, interviews with key speakers and legislators in attendance, and other news. Last year, Representative Scott Turner (R-Rockwall) launched his campaign for Speaker of the House after he filled in at the last minute for former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka to deliver the opening luncheon keynote and received a standing ovation for his remarks.

Registration for Policy Orientation is now open, and instructions for registration, as well as the latest version of the agenda and list of speakers, is available at www.PolicyOrientation.com.
