How is Obama's recess appointment defeat a 'Republican' victory?

The New York Times led the way in declaring Obama’s court defeat over “recess” appointments a Republican victory. The Daily Kos lost no time in pointing out that the three-judge panel that unanimously struck down Obama’s unconstitutional appointments was composed of Republican appointees.

All well and good, except that the power that was struck down would apply equally to Republican presidents. Something these formerly hysterical critics of executive overreach by George W. Bush seem to have missed.
