…especially Fords. Among the greatest of all Fords was the ’49 “Shoebox,” the first truly modern postwar car. Dispensing with the bulky pontoon fenders of its predescessors its debut heralded the dawn of the golden age of Detroit auto manufacturing, and – along with its sister, the ’49 Mercury – provided a blank canvas for generations of lead sled customizers.
