House Rep Steve Stockman Demands Answers RE Obama/OFA Gun Control Spambots

Obama’s permanent campaign arm, “Organizing for Action” started a Twitter hashtag campaign, last weekend, #WeDemandAVote, which was launched to show popular support for the president’s gun control proposals.  Supporters were encouraged to re-tweet his call for Congress to vote on the Democrats’  gun-control legislation. But it wasn’t long before conservative tweeps noticed that many of the #WeDemandAVote tweets were “egg avatars” –  new accounts spamming the same messages to representatives all across the country.

The story was broken, last weekend at Weasel Zippers, and I found it to be a good companion piece to my post; Obama’s OFA Holds “Massive Vigil” Outside of NRA Headquarters (Up To 30 People) because it illustrated how little genuine support there was for Obama’s gun control agenda.

 Now, one Republican Rep. Steve Stockman,(TX) is demanding answers to what he called an effort by OFA to “defraud members ofCongress.” He’s  asking for any reports, audits, letters, expense logs etc relating to the president’s gun-control campaign .

The Texas congressman said he sent letters to both the White Houseand OFA after learning Monday that he and 15 other Capitol Hilllawmakers had received computer-generated tweets that included the

“I am deeply troubled by this week’s revelation supporters ofPresident Obama’s anti-gun campaign employed ‘spambots’ to send fakeTwitter messages to members of Congress intending to create the falseappearance of grassroots support,” he wrote. 

Two other Republican lawmakers — Michael Grimm, of New York, andAdam Kinzinger, of Illinois — also appeared to receive similar messagesthat may be linked to former Obama digital strategist Brad Schenck.
