Perhaps the thinking is that Republican Senators will be more amenable to making a deal with Obama (raising taxes), after they've been plied with food and adult beverages.
But sadly, the "punish your enemies" rule is probably still in effect for those nasty old House Republicans. If Boehner comes out of the meeting weeping, be very afraid.
