Congressional Staffers Social Media Feeds Tracked by LegiStorm

Members of Congress and their press secretaries are usually the only individuals in a congressional office to be mindful that their Twitter feed is being carefully watched. That is about to change. Staffers on Capitol Hill were reminded on Wednesday that LegiStorm, a subscription based web site providing real time data about the people of Congress to the public, will begin tracking information coming from all Congressional staffers’ Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other social media accounts. According to LegiStorm:

Intelligence in Real-Time

Find out who is saying what about your issues when they’re saying it.

StormFeed provides real-time, full-text searchable access to every official press release and official tweet from Capitol Hill plus the tweets of thousands of congressional staffers.

2 million tweets and counting.

Twitter has changed the landscape of communications in Washington. StormFeed is the first service to capture not only the official tweets from Congress but also the tweets of congressional staffers. We track thousands of staffers so you don’t have to follow them. Need to know who’s mentioned your issues from a state? StormFeed’s powerful search let’s you find tweets by text, date, state, party, member, office, and chamber.

StormFeed isn’t like any other press release service available today.

We don’t cherry pick. We provide every press release from every office, every time. You can search for an find the press releases that matter to you, and decide what they mean for your organization. We launched with an archive of more than 250,000 press releases and we add thousands every week.

Given the expansion of LegiStorm’s services, it should be expected that some Congressional staffers will choose to have separate private accounts for tweeting about their favorite sports teams and other non-related Capitol Hill issues. Some staffers bemoan that their online political snark may have to be tamped down a notch or two.
