Are Gun Control Executive Orders Forthcoming?
I'm not sure what to make of this Buzzfeed story that was reported, earlier today.
According to their source, Vice President Biden told White House gun control allies that the president will be announcing new executive actions to curb gun violence in the coming days.
On a conference call with “stakeholders,” Biden told gun control advocates that the fight is not over and that eventual action on gun control will come. Press were not invited to the conference call; a participant provided BuzzFeed with access.
“Look I know you’re going to say that I’m just being an optimist and I’m trying to put a good face on this. But you know I’ve been around here a long time and we’ve already done, because of you, some really good things,” Biden said. “Number one, the president is already lining up some additional executive actions he’s going to be taking later this week.”
Buzzfeed later updated, "a White House official told BuzzFeed the executive actions Biden was referring to on the call are part of Obama's original list of 23 executive actions on guns announced in January."
But Obama signed the 23 executive actions back in January. Biden said he would be lining up additional executive actions, this week.
Either Biden misspoke (highly probable), the Buzzfeed source heard wrong, or the White House is doing damage control. I'm not sure which.
In any event, red flags should have been raised, yesterday, when Obama made the following statement during his tirade following the failure of the gun control bill.
“Even without Congress, my administration will keep doing everything it can to protect more of our communities,” Obama said.
This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
