Cyndia Lauper won a Tony Award for Best Original Score for the musical version of “Kinky Boots” during Sunday evening’s award ceremony.
She previously won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1985 and an Emmy Award in 1995 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (“Mad About You”).
She is now 3/4ths of the way to achieving EGOT status, the concept popularized by 30 Rock’s Tracy Jordan, wherein an entertainer earns an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award–a kind of entertainment Grand Slam.
