Penny Pritzker Thru Committee--Unanimously
Four years ago, she was so afraid of questions about her subprime mortgage banking failures that she withdrew her name from consideration as Secretary of Commerce. But on Monday, Penny Pritzker passed a committee vote on her confirmation--unanimously.
Here is some of what Ranking Member John Thune (R-SD) had to say: "While the president has had strong words for others who have benefitted from offshore tax havens, we should not let his double-standard on this issue stand in the way of a qualified nominee."
Forbes magazine described those investments in offshore tax havens as "one of the grandest and most successful family tax-avoidance schemes ever--one that exposed some pretty significant blind spots in the laws that govern family trusts. Congress should ask some probing questions."
No one did.
