Police: Man Kills Family Dog, Then Cooks It

TAMPA, Fl. -- A 25-year-old Tampa man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly killing the family dog, carving it up, and then freezing the remains. According to police, the suspect, Thomas Elliot Huggins, strangled a young pit bull mix and chopped it into quarters apparently for future meals.

A family member notified police.  When officers arrived, they said they found the ribs of the dog cooked in a pot, and its head in the garbage.

According to an investigator with Hillsborough Animal Services, Huggins "expertly" cut the animal suggesting that it may not have been the first time he had done something like this. Moreover, the arrest report states that he learned how to clean animals from his mother. His past work included squirrels and rabbits.

Huggins is currently in jail on $2,000 bond, charged with the inhumane and cruel killing of the dog.
