Nun Jailed After Robbing Churches To Feed Gambling Habit
HOLLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) - After robbing two churches and pocketing $128,000 to feed a gambling habit, a nun has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and 5 years probation. As part of her sentence, Sister Mary Anne Rapp will have to pay $128,000 in restitution and complete 100 hours of community service.
The Orleans County District Attorney said "Over the years I'm sure she has helped a lot of people and a lot of causes, but you can't ignore the [dishonesty she was] involved in. This involves her over a long period of time taking money from the collection plate from the church on a weekly basis, lying to parishioners."
The good Sister admitted to robbing St. Mary's Church in Holley and St. Mark's church in Kendall and then claims to have blown the booty at casinos.
