Chris Wallace is Wrong About Obama's Trayvon Statement
Chris Wallace said on Fox News this afternoon that he did not think that President Barack Obama was stoking racial tensions with his statement today on the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin. In his view, Obama was simply trying to explain how blacks and whites had reacted to the case.
That is nice, but it accepts a faulty premise. The case had nothing to do with race--as both the prosecution and the defense said, and as an FBI investigation indicated, and as the evidence revealed. By treating the case as if it is somehow a racial issue when it is not, and by doing so the day before nationwide protests organized by a serial race-baiter like Al Sharpton, Obama was certainly creating division where none ought to have existed. I, for one, am tired of seeing an acquitted man be made into the scapegoat for our perceived national sins.
