Police: Italian Man Suspected of Trying to Eat Mother After Body Parts Found Cooked
ITALY - Italian police have arrested a man they suspect murdered his mother, chopped her in pieces, and then grilled her entrails with the intent to eat them.
45-year-old Lino Renzi, who has a history of mental health problems, is being held at a hospital under police supervision after authorities say he killed his 70-year-old mother Maria Pia Guariglia at their home in Salerno.
Italian media is reporting that a large part of her badly mutilated body was found on the bathroom floor. Other body parts were found in the freezer, the oven, boiling in a pot on the stove, and grilled entrails were found on a plate. Police suspect Renzi intended to eat the remains.
Firefighters went to the apartment after an anonymous caller reported a strong smell of gas coming from the property. Renzia was found in his bedroom, confused and naked.
Police estimated that the woman had been dead for three days but an autopsy will be performed to establish the exact time and cause of death.
Renzi was released three months ago into his mother's custody after spending time in a hospital for a psychiatric disorder.
