The US Park Police have shut down the Lincoln Memorial until further notice due to an act of vandalism.
A visitor discovered the vandalism inside the chamber of the memorial around 1:30 a.m. and reported it to police.
Green paint was splattered on the statue and on the floor around the statue, a U.S. Park Police spokesperson confirmed. Police tape now ropes off the chamber of the memorial.
