What could go wrong?
I don't see any reason why Filner shouldn't be able to discharge his official duties from a behavioral modification facility. It worked out swimmingly for Jesse Jackson Jr., didn't it?
I wonder what kind of "behavioral modification" this will be. I have this image of Filner wired up to a Skinner box while the scene of Scarlett Johansson's interrogation by Russian crooks in "The Avengers" plays on endless loop.
Or maybe we could appoint Sandra Fluke as his therapist, and turn this thing into a reality show.
In all seriousness, I have a hard time believing Filner's going to cling to office through this, when even the dim-bulb hyper-partisans like Debbie Wasserman-Schultz are abandoning ship. The weird thing is that he's dragging out his party's agony like this, as is Anthony Weiner. I guess Democrats are super-confident in their invulnerable media shield.
Now, why is any substantial portion of the adult population of San Diego willing to put up with this travesty any longer?
