AP: Lois Lerner is Retiring

The AP reported moments ago that Lois Lerner is resigning her job at the IRS.

Lerner is the former head of the Exempt Organizations unit which held up 501(c)(4) applications by Tea Party and similar groups for as long as two years.

Lerner was called to testify before Congress but chose to plead the 5th rather answer questions. She has been on administrative leave since May. Sen. Chuck Grassley claimed at the time that the IRS Commissioner had asked for Lerner’s resignation but that she had refused.

Breitbart News reported last month that Lerner had spoken about political pressure the IRS was under in 2010 to stem the money flowing into elections after the Supreme Court issued its Citizens United decision in January of that year.

The staff of Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa issued a memo updating its work on the IRS investigation last week. The memo included a transcription of Lerner’s 2010 statement and also focused on the White House’s pushback on Citizens United using some of the same quotes highlighted last month by Breitbart.
