Just last week, Nancy Pelosi was invoking her Catholic faith to attack Republicans on food stamp reform.
” On the floor of the House the Republicans are trying to cut $40 billion, that’s 50 percent of the nutrition program – largely children, seniors, returning veterans, [and] women, Pelosi lamented in a speech before the Center for American Progress, seemingly unaware that the cuts only amount to a 5.1% cut over the next ten years and doesn’t affect children at all.
“It’s a most incredible thing. I said yesterday at a press conference on this subject, I said: unless we – it was in Houston, I go to mass wherever I go, and at the pulpit, the priest said, in Houston, Texas – not one of your liberal bastions – he said: ‘I think it’s important for people, not just to come to mass on Sunday and pray, but when they leave here not to prey on people.’ And isn’t it exactly what they are doing: preying on people.”
Well today – straight from the Vatican – comes some really bad news for this devout Catholic.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has no Catholic right to be granted Communion, said the leading cardinal of the highest court at the Vatican.
Mrs. Pelosi should be denied Communion until she changes her advocacy views on abortion, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke said, according to the Western Center for Journalism.
That’s canon law, not opinion, he said. Canon 915 states that Catholics who are stubbornly contrary “in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”
And Cardinal Burke said Mrs. Pelosi fits the definition.
