UN scientists unable to explain why global temperatures have barely risen in the last 15 years despite claims that “greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have increased to levels that are unprecedented in at least 800,000 years” have been forced to resort to a lot of unscientific perhaps, maybe’s and could be’s to explain their most recent report.
But the landmark report conceded that world temperatures have barely risen in the past 15 years, despite growing amounts of greenhouse gases being pumped into the atmosphere.
They’re also being questioned by skeptics including Donna Laframboise who revealed that two-thirds of the contents of earlier reports “had been compiled with input from non peer-reviewed journals and organisations such as WWF and Greenpeace.”
Unfortunately, dissenting voices have a way of not getting into the room when the group of scientists gets together to craft a summery of the larger report that will drive governmental policy around the world.
The report strengthened the case for international leaders to work for an “ambitious, legally binding global agreement” in 2015 to cut carbon emissions, he added, thanking the scientists behind it for making clear “what is at stake if we don’t act.”
A careful reading of the reporting on the gathering will give one more pause than even global temperatures over the last fifteen years; but don’t look for those doubts to make it into any official report, or summary.
Officials from 195 countries have spent this week behind closed doors in Stockholm, Sweden with UN scientists, hammering out a 30-page summary document which was released this morning.
The IPCC’s last major report was criticised for a string of errors – including the since-withdrawn claim that Himalayan glaciers would vanish within 25 years.
