Democratic Rep. Apologizes For Calling House Republicans Taliban
Florida Congressman Joe Garcia (D) has now apologized for his statement on the House floor, in which he referred to the “extremist” Republicans as “this Taliban.”
It doesn’t Jim. Listen, I wasn’t referring my to colleagues as Taliban, I was simply referring to an extremist point of view, and the moment it came out of my mouth, I thought, this is going to be misconstrued. If anyone was offended, I’m sorry, that certainly wasn’t the point. -Rep. Joe Garcia
But while apologizing for his remark was the right thing to do, his sincerity could be called into question, because when Garcia made the statement, he was actually reading from prepared remarks. During his address, Garcia himself said that “we’ve heard a lot of things from the other side,” and that he understood how messaging worked.
”We’ve heard a lot of things from the other side, I understand messaging.”-Rep. Joe Garcia (D)
Garcia said that he was not referring to his colleagues in the House of Representatives as the Taliban, but only a small group of “extremists” that he felt were holding the country hostage by shutting down the government. Whether he was referring to one, two, or a small group of “extremist” Representatives, all members of the U.S. House Congress are Garcia’s colleagues.
