Cops: Angry Traveler Attacks United Airlines Ticket Agent

FLORIDA – Authorities say a 22-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday accused of violently beating a United Airlines ticket agent at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Henderson Griffiths demanded help from agent Teresa Rodriguez, but when Rodriguez tried to help, Griffiths reportedly became violent.

Authorities say Rodriguez tried to shield herself from punches to the face, but Griffiths grabbed her hair and pulled her to the floor where she began “kicking the victim in the stomach and legs as the victim laid helpless on the floor,” according to the affidavit.

According to Capt. Roy Liddicott, “It was full on. It absolutely was. Totally unprovoked The young lady did nothing to bring it on. She just basically defended herself the whole time.”

Two male travelers wrestled Griffiths to the ground and restrained her until help arrived. She was taken into custody and charged with assault and battery. She was being held on $5,000 bond.

Rodriguez sustained bruises to her face, head, stomach and legs.

It was not immediately known what travel dilemma set off Griffiths, but we’re fairly confident she missed her flight.
