Republicans Are Combatting The UberPresidency With Two Bills in the House This Week

The House will be voting on two bills this week to combat Obama’s “UberPresidency.”

1) H.R. 4138: The Enforce the Law Act, sponsored by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) authorizes the House or Senate to issue a lawsuit against the Executive Branch for failure to faithfully execute the laws.

2) H.R. 3973: Faithful Execution of the Law Act, Sponsored by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) requires all federal officials who establish or implement a formal or informal policy to refrain from enforcing a federal law to report to Congress on the reason for the non-enforcement.

Rep. Gowdy talked about his bill on Fox News’ Justice With Judge Jeanine, Sunday. He explained the need for the Enforce the Law Act, thus:

“Well Judge, Congress does not pass suggestions, and we don’t pass ideas, and we’re not a debating society. We pass laws. And the Constitution requires that the executive faithfully execute those laws. And when he or she does not – Congress ought to stick up for itself. People talk about the power of the purse and impeachment – those are punishments. I want the president to do his job – which is to faithfully execute the law. This bill allows us to go to court and get a judicial entity in the judicial branch to order the executive branch to do what the Constitution requires him to do.”

Gowdy mentioned the waivers, exemptions and delays in the affordable care act, as well as Obama’s changes to immigration laws, and Holder’s refusal to prosecute mandatory minimum drug laws as examples of abuses Congress would fight in court.
