Elle Magazine published a story titled ‘Meet the 10 Most Powerful Women in D.C.’ this month, but the piece only includes one right-leaning woman. It’s not clear why a fashion magazine believes it is qualified to determine who are the “powerful woman” in politics, since I sure don’t look for fashion advice from political publications. Alas, one thing we know for certain is that media has an ironclad sense of self importance.
Senator Susan Collins is the lone GOPer who made the cut, according to Elle. She looks fantastic in her photo shoot, as do all the women in Elle’s story.
The magazine’s list includes: Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Hillary Clinton adviser Cheryl Mills, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier, former U.S. chief of protocol Capricia Marshall, Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden, NARAL President Ilyse Hogue, CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash and POLITICO COO Kim Kingsley.
Ironically, Elle’s Editor-in-Chief Robbie Meyers explained on Morning Joe “We’re looking for diversity, and certainly unique and powerful women, but also those women who have something going on right now and that are really sort of very much in the mix of things.”
Diversity? Not so much.
