In a letter to studio head Jack Warner dated September 13, 1943, Humphrey Bogart requests an overdue vacation and writes, “I feel that there is no better way to spend that vacation than to go overseas and entertain the armed forces.”
In 1943, Bogart was 44 years-old and the biggest male movie star in the world. He had already served in the Navy during WWI after enlisting at the age of 18.
Hollywood used to be great.
