McCain, Perry Tag-Team Rand Paul Over His Foreign Policy Views

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) appeared on CNN on Sunday and labeled his fellow Republican Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) an “isolationist. He is “part of a wing of the party that has been there prior to World War I, that is a withdrawal to ‘Fortress America,'” according to McCain.

That came on the heels of a Friday op-ed in The Washington Post by Texas’ Republican  Gov. Rick Perry that readPaul’s “brand of isolationism (or whatever he prefers) would compound the threat” posed by terrorist in parts of the world like Syria and Iraq….”

Perry also wrote the problem with Paul’s argument “is that it means ignoring the profound threat that the group now calling itself the Islamic State (ISIS) poses to the United States and the world.”

An adviser to Senator Paul pronounced Perry’s criticism “utter nonsense.” While McCain was the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, both Paul and Perry appear to have their eyes on 2016 and are likely stakjing out theri ground in preparation for  a coming foreign policy debate within the GOP.
