The JV Team Is Behaving Extraordinarily Irresponsibly In Iraq

In response to Horrors of ISIS:

The Obama administration should have done something January, when ISIS took control of Fallujah. That’s where the United States Marines fought the bloodiest battles of the Iraq war in 2004. Instead, Obama referred to ISIS as “jayvee” – an analogy he told New Yorker editor David Remnick – was often used around the White House.

“The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant,” Obama said. He then added, “I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said yesterday that there is no military solution to the ongoing slaughter of ethnic minorities in Iraq, and tried to suggest the answer to the problem is reforming the Iraqi government. He said that the administration would deal with genocide on a “case by case” basis.

In an interview on CNN, Mark Arabo, a Californian businessman and Chaldean-American leader, called what’s happening in Iraq a “Christian genocide” and said “children are being beheaded, mothers are being raped and killed, and fathers are being hung.”

“You’re startling me with the severity of what you’re describing,” the CNN host said. “You said they are — beheading children?”

Unimaginable but true.

I saw that picture of the headless little girl in the bloodstained frilly dress, today.  She’s looks to be about two years old and one of the ISIS monsters was holding her up – hands under her chubby lifeless arms, perhaps inspecting his work.

Graphic, raw photos of that and other unimaginable horrors here. Don’t click unless you have a strong stomach.

That picture will haunt me for the rest of my life. I imagine even Obama himself would admit that the JV team is behaving “extraordinarily irresponsibly.”

But it isn’t clear that he’s interested in doing anything to stop the slaughter.

As Byron York in The Washington Examiner noted, Obama stressed that he was authorizing only two actions in Iraq.

Obama’s directive is not to destroy, or even weaken, ISIS. It is not to turn the tide in Iraq. It is not to protect Christians or other persecuted minorities. It is, quite narrowly, to protect American forces and facilities in two key areas.

Obama’s second goal is equally limited: to offer relief and some protection to members of the Yazidi sect who, faced with murderous ISIS aggression, have fled to a mountaintop in northern Iraq, where they are now under siege and without food or water. While Obama, in his speech, said that ISIS has been “especially barbaric towards religious minorities, including Christian and Yazidis,” he made clear that his directive concerns the specific plight of the Yazidis at this specific moment. “At the request of the Iraqi government, we’ve begun operations to help save Iraqi civilians stranded on the mountain,” he said.

In the conference call later, the senior administration official emphasized again that the president’s action is directed just toward the Yazidis. Obama’s order, the official explained, “had two very narrow and specific objectives: One, the protection of U.S. personnel and facilities; and two, alleviating the huge humanitarian crisis faced by the Yazidi people.”

At NRO, Jonah Goldberg points out that Obama appears to be disinterested as ISIS/ISIL/JV – whatever you want to call it – takes over Iraq, slaughtering innocents in massive numbers.

Now that same junior-varsity team controls more territory than any terrorist organization in history, has some 5,000 battle-hardened jihadists with Western passports, hundreds of millions of dollars at its disposal, and is earning millions more every day by selling oil on the black market. It is slaughtering Shiites, Christians and other “infidels” with a medieval abandon that makes the alleged A-team of al-Qaeda blanch with horror. At this moment, it has cornered tens of thousands of Yazidi villagers on a mountaintop. ISIS presents them with a choice: Convert to Islam at gunpoint or die of thirst.

There are also conflicting reports out today that they could be in control a dam that could be used as a weapon of mass destruction against a half million Iraqis.

The Obama administration really should rethink it’s decision not to authorize “a broad-based counterterrorism campaign” against these maniacs.

Who else is going to stop them?
