In response to The Gun Discussion Seems to Involve a Battle Over a Cultural Preference...:

In talking with friends who are for gun control, alot of their statements seem to stem from personal preference.  One friend said she has no threat of a home invasion, so why should anyone else?  Another said there's no longer a reason to hunt because meat is readily available in stores.  And in the case pf protection, obviously, there's easy accessibility to whistles.  This line of thinking reminds me of laws about smoking in public places (and vice laws).  If I were dictator, I would ban smoking anywhere.  It gives me a headache, stinks and makes everyone around them stink.  Unfortunately, my intolerance for cigarette smoke is not a good basis for making laws.  Those who don't use guns or understand the 2nd Amendment are all too happy to dismiss these rights because they don't exercise them.  Laws (and rights) should not be made on personal preference, yet that is exactly what anti-2nd Amendment proponents are doing. 

On one hand, one cultural cohort prefers more citizens being armed, as a deterrent to the comparatively-small number of armed criminals and psychopaths.

On the other hand, one cultural cohort would prefer to deal with gun violence by simply forbidding citizens from having guns.  For example, this genius -- another Colorado lawmaker, not the one we just heard about -- recommends that women who fear rape employ "the Buddy System" and/or "Judo."

Setting aside Cephas Hour [the author's mostly-Christian-music podcast -- ed.] so as to take this from the personal into the general, there are conservatives doing their best to address the public through different channels — music, film, etc. These efforts ought to be rewarded, or at the least supported. Yet, what is taking place is that when one or more of these artists does work that is overtly political and conservative, the praise flows like a river. Should they step out of that into doing something of an outreach nature, the crickets come to call. Without a Buddy Holly in sight.

Stretch out. Reach out. Embrace the more challenging way. Divest yourself of the comfort zone, or to put it in a more crude yet not inaccurate way the circle jerk. Actively support conservative arts not just when they’re toeing the line, but when they blur the division line between themselves, their beliefs, and the people outside your conversation zone.

It seems like it was only yesterday that liberals suddenly turned into staunch defenders of religious dignity.  The President had a story about "spontaneous video protests" to sell, there were demonstrations by angry Muslims around the world, and presto!  Suddenly the rank-and-file Left was following Obama's lead, and wondering if maybe this whole "freedom of speech" thing was over-rated.  Why, maybe speech that insults the feelings of Muslims shouldn't be so "free" at all.  Blog posts pondering the wisdom of either voluntary or mandatory censorship to avoid another "Innocence of Muslims" YouTube video fracas blossomed across the left side of the Internet.

Oh, but it's not just Muslims, our liberal friends assured us!  They were super-concerned about insults to all religions.  They grew quite haughty when reminded that they've actively stepped forward to defend "edgy" artists who defamed Christian and Jewish beliefs.  No, this wasn't just a special liberal fear of violent Muslims, or the Left opportunistically hitching a ride on Islamic rage to bash its domestic adversaries.  This was noble and universal religious tolerance!

The big push to blame videogames for the Newtown massacre has been bubbling along beneath the far higher-profile effort to push gun control laws.  Now comes an oddly-written story in the New York Daily News which repeatedly asserts that shooter Adam Lanza might have been trying to "replay a scenario" from one of his favorite games... without telling readers which game, or scenario, he was supposedly replaying.  

That's a rather suspicious detail to omit, isn't it?  The claim is made several times during the story, and there's a photo of a scene from "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" accompanied by a legend which asserts that game is "among one [sic] of the violent video games being associated with gun violence in minors."  But the reader is given no empirical evidence to evaluate the assertion.

People often tell me that I have a relatively good sense of humor.  But if someone tried this on me at an airport, I don't think it would go over very well.  Airport security and the experience of spending time in airports is already as unnecessarily stressful as it can be.  You pull a stunt like this on me to sell your deodorant, and it might become a self-fulfilling prophecy.  (Just kidding, TSA - please, no patdowns next trip).
