Media Bias: Media Bias of all kinds.

If I Have This Right...

Feb 12, 2013 9:24 AM PT

Someone who thought her cutesy title for a book, Sex in the South: Unbuckling the Bible Belt, was JUST AWESOME and OMG SOOOO FUNNY LOL (WINK) LOL ROFLAMAO, turns out to be a complete idiot?

That can't be right.  Have you checked your facts?  I'm pretty sure if Suzi Parker says that Sarah Palin is joining Al Jazeera it must be true. I mean, she's like a Riot Grrrl or something.  Gold standard.

Suzi Parker, Ace Reporter

Feb 12, 2013 8:28 AM PT

Something called "Suzi Parker" who writes something called "She The People" at something called "The Washington Post" bagged the scoop of the century earlier today, in a report originally entitled "Sarah Palin’s plan to reach ‘millions of devoutly religious people’ through al-Jazeera":

The Sarah Palin Story is a cautionary tale about what can happen when politics and celebrity meet.

Fox News and their once-upon-a-time darling Palin recently parted ways after three years. But never fear. Palin has a new media outlet by which to share her commentary.

Late last week Al Jazeera America announced the former vice-presidential candidate would be joining their news network. Al Jazeera America recently bought Al Gore’s failing Current Media that broadcasts the Current TV channel. Ironically, Fox News recently called Al Jazeera “an anti-American terror mouthpiece.”

“As you all know, I’m not a big fan of newspapers, journalists, news anchors and the liberal media in general,” Palin told the Web site The Daily Currant. “But I met with the folks at Al-Jazeera and they told me they reach millions of devoutly religious people who don’t watch CBS or CNN. That tells me they don’t have a liberal bias.”

The New Republic Settles for What's Safe, Avoids Real Controversy

Feb 11, 2013 8:00 PM PT

Ace summed up the painful hypocrisy found on the front cover of the latest issue of the The New Republic (TNR). The Left of center (I'm feeling generous, today) magazine whose staff has historically been all-white-all-the-time, found it necessary to run a lengthy story entitled, The Republicans, The Party of White People.

Much like most of the news media, TNR is out of touch with working class Americans. People are losing purchasing power. Our government's incessant spending is slamming up against the concrete laws of economics and more Americans are suffering as a result. But to the editors at TNR, Hollywood's lack of gay sex scenes, the GOP's race problem and amnesty are all far more important stories.

Pathetic: media obsessed with whether Obama will talk 'climate' in SOTU

Feb 9, 2013 9:01 PM PT

Shortly after one of the worst snowstorms in history (I know, I know, it's "climate change" now, not "global warming"), the mainstream media is obsessing over the question of whether President Barack Obama will mention climate change in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday. It's Politico's lead story, for example.

Hey, our economy just contracted and unemployment went up and debt ceiling sequester Benghazi spending Syria etc.--but let's talk about climate change. Because... because it flatters our liberal self-regard, that's why.

Loaves and Fishes

Feb 8, 2013 4:54 PM PT

There's a clever loaves and fishes trick going on with today's major anti-GOP narrative. It begins with a sequester story Politico published last night. The story opens with the splashy claim, "Republicans open to letting billions in sequester cuts go through figure they can blame the president if the economy goes south."

Notice they don't say how many Republicans are thinking this way. And after a long recounting of a DCCC press release we finally get to some Republicans who argue something quite different:

“Too often, some in Washington underestimate the knowledge base of the voters,” Oregon Rep. Greg Walden, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, told POLITICO. “And from a Republican perspective, it’s a base that believes much more needs to be done to reduce the size and scope of the federal government because we can’t continue to borrow 43 cents on the dollar and survive.”
