Unpacking the Obama contraction spin

Jan 31, 2013 5:41 AM PT

Here's what I don't get about the Left's furious efforts to spin away the fourth-quarter GDP numbers: the new talking point is that we only had an economic contraction because government spending is down, so it's all the fault of those miserly Republicans and their dratted "austerity."

Leaving aside that much of this reduced spending is coming from the defense sector that Democrats want to cut, rather than the social programs they're hot to increase, you're left with about 1.25 percent private-sector growth after government spending is factored out.  That's pitiful, not something to celebrate.  And if the government spending number were better - say, a 0.1 percent private sector contraction pumped up to 1.25 percent overall GDP growth by big government spending - we all know the Democrats would scream like banshees at the thought of excluding the government's slice of the GDP pie.  They would portray anyone who even suggested it as a mindless partisan hack.

Remember when Obama OWNED the economy? That was SO 2009.

Jan 30, 2013 9:55 PM PT

July 14, 2009:

Now, my administration has a job to do, as well, and that job is to get this economy back on its feet.  That's my job.  (Applause.)  And it's a job I gladly accept.  I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, well, this is Obama's economy.  That's fine.  Give it to me.  (Applause.)  My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and harp and gripe.  (Applause.)

Cruz Embarrasses Anti-Gun Lobby

Jan 30, 2013 3:41 PM PT

Freshman Senator Ted Cruz completely debunks the 'Assault Weapon'  argument during the Senate Judiciary meeting on gun control, when he pointed out that a particular hunting rifle  considered to be 'legal' under Senator Feinstein's newly proposed  weapons ban bill, would be deemed  illegal if  "a piece of plastic" was attached to the rifle.

Cruz said that this gun witch hunt was all about aesthetics, and then held up a plastic pistol grip, explaining that if that the pistol grip was to be affixed to the hunting rifle, then that rifle would then be considered an assault weapon, regardless of the  caliber ammunition it fires.

Allen West Shakes Head at Formal Rival's Questionable Ethics

Jan 30, 2013 2:50 PM PT

Congressman Patrick Murphy, who narrowly beat Allen West in the 2012 general election, got together with some of his pals in the House Democratic caucus, and may have violated a House Ethics rule. Murphy and company appeared in a political action committee's web ad wearing their congressional lapel pins. Apparently this is frowned up, but not really enforced, as far as House Ethics rules go. The PAC in question is the Democrat-friendly, House Majority PAC.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has picked up on this developing story, putting out a video attacking Murphy's "Gross" hypocrisy for condeming organizations like House Majority PAC that try to effect change in elections. No sooner than the story broke, Allen West himself went on to replied to a tweet directed to him about the story. West Replied, "Yup" to the tweet,"Allen West is somewhere shaking his head and laughing." More on this story as it continues to develop

Witness to Obama skeet shooting located at last

Jan 30, 2013 1:31 PM PT

Great news, everyone!  It looks like someone willing to testify that they actually saw Obama shooting skeet has been found.  Our long national skeet shooting nightmare is over.  Contrary to the President's boasts of frequent gunplay, the actual event seems to have gone pretty much the way a conservative political cartoonist would have rendered it.

I'm glad this has been settled, because were probably just days away from Obama ordering a drone strike on a clay pigeon.

Obama's real agenda on immigration

Jan 30, 2013 12:50 PM PT

President Obama’s agenda on immigration is more and more obvious each passing day: he wants to break the Republican Party by training the Hispanic population that Republicans are secretly racist. That’s why Obama goes out of his way to propose an alternative immigration reform structure to the border security first structure considered by the Senate “Gang of Eight.” Obama is attempting to put a poison pill in the immigration reform package, killing it dead while forcing Republicans to play the villainous obstructionists.
