The NY Times' Shifting Standards on Mixing Murder and Politics

Feb 7, 2013 8:27 PM PT

In response to SPLC's "Hate" Map Doesn't List FRC Shooter:

Here's the NY Times story on Christopher Dorner. The authors devote a little space to his "manifesto":

The 6,000-word manifesto was bristling with anger and explicit threats, naming two dozen police officers he intended to kill. Mr. Dorner laid out grievances against a police department that he said remained riddled with racism and corruption, a reference to a chapter of the department’s history that, in the view of many people, was swept aside long ago.

Hazed and Confused

Feb 7, 2013 5:16 PM PT

As I mentioned last week, I despise how the EPA hurts cities and states across the country by imposing job-killing regulations.  The Chamber's Free Enterprise blog is a great source for keeping up on what's going on in the states.  Blogger Sean Hackbarth's latest piece is on the EPA going after coal plants in Arizona.   Hackbarth writes:

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne argues that EPA’s regional haze regulations won’t be more effective than the state's rules, and he’s right. The U.S. Chamber report authored by Competitive Policy Institute policy analyst William Yeatman, “EPA’s New Regulatory Front: Regional Haze and the Takeover of State Programs,” contains a case study of the Navajo Generating Station, another Arizona coal plant in the same situation as the Apache, Cholla and Coronado plants involved in this suit. EPA wants to hammer the Navajo plant with regional haze controls that would cost $700 million. Yet peer-reviewed research has concluded that there’s little chance that any discernible visibility would occur.

Assassination Power & Outlawry

Feb 7, 2013 3:12 PM PT

I hear some people talking past each other on Obama's self-declared right to assemble a Kill List of Americans and order their deaths, sans any kind of external check or procedural safeguards.

Charles Krauthammer says that anyone who has taken arms against America has forfeited his right to citizenship.

Why Do Republicans Insist on Airing Their Dirty Laundry In Public?

In response to Republican Girl Fight:

This whole pi$$ing match makes both sides look bad. The letter was ridiculous, but so is the Daily Caller's catty "mean girl"  type digs at Brent Bozell:

A group of conservative leaders has signed an irate letter demanding that a Republican political consultant be fired for calling the relatively undistinguished scion of a prominent political family a “hater.”

Republican Girl Fight

The GOP industrial complex must be bored of late. Hagel, Brennan, Benghazi, gun control legislation, EPA scandals, and the sequester are just not holding their attention.

What a perfect time to start an intra-movement war by jockeying for the official "better than you" title.

Paging Dr. Freud

Feb 7, 2013 10:13 AM PT

In response to Cui Bono?:

Liz, I'm beginning to suspect a lot of lefties support gun control because they simply are unable to imagine having a gun in their own hands and not going on a murderous shooting rampage. "Save me from myself," or something.

Concern Trolling Christie's Health

Feb 7, 2013 9:42 AM PT

CNN is very concerned about Chris Christie's health. They asked a former White House doctor--one who has never met or examined Christie--to comment and she suggested he could drop dead in office. This led to a calm but firm "shut up" from the Governor.

In case you've forgotten, concern trolling a candidate's health (or potential candidate in this case) is something the left has done before. In 2008, far left activist Robert Greenwald organized a group of several thousand doctors demanding Sen. John McCain release his medical records. They publicized their demand with a full page ad in the NY Times. Sen. Harry Reid also expressed concerned.
