Allen West's Unquestionable Fundraising Ability

Feb 10, 2013 12:12 PM PT

If you tally up all of the total receipts from all of the Republican candidates who ran for Congress in the 2012 Republican primary election, and then the  total receipts of those candidates who then went on to run in the general election, the total amount of receipts for Republicans was$54,567,657.  Of the $54 million raised, Allen West’s $19 million garnered roughly  35.5% of that total!

Congressmen Squeezed by Student Loan Debt

Feb 10, 2013 10:35 AM PT

The Center for Responsive Politics recently released the names of sitting U.S. Senators and Congressmen who have outstanding college loans. The analysis reveals that the student loans taken out by members of Congress add up to somewhere between 1.8 million and 4.3 million dollars. The list of names is bipartisan. And most of the loans taken out were for the lawmakers themselves, their children or their spouses education.

This story seems replete with all kinds of irony.

Weed May Lead to a Conservative Majority

Feb 8, 2013 6:44 PM PT

In response to 420 For the GOP: Iowahawk, I totally agree. And in the famous words of Andre 3,000, "Marijuana illegal but cigarettes cool, I might look kinda funny but I ain't no fool."

The GOP should take Cuccinelli's lead. The prohibition on pot produced the same faux free market for marijuana that the 18th Amendment did for booze. Let's face it, weed is aplenty, cheap and easy to find. Drugs are winning the War on Drugs. And most marijuana laws are as ceremonial as immigration laws. There's also an opportunity here with voters 18-40, that the GOP is once again sleeping on. And at least two Democratic lawmakers are reading the electoral tea leaves.

In response to God Spoke Through Ben Carson at National Prayer Breakfast.....In Front Of Obama!:

Sonnie, I posted that yesterday at Nice Deb, (meant to post it, here too, but got busy), and I can't believe the almost visceral response it is getting everywhere. It's being tweeted and facebooked and posted all over the internet. My stats are going through the roof. Breibart's stats are going to go through the roof now too, because everybody wants to watch this speech over and over again.

420 For the GOP

In response to Virginia's Cuccinelli Cool With Cannabis?:

Jerome, speaking as someone who occasionally experiments with marijuana laws, it's, um, high time. One doesn't have to own a tie-dyed ferret and a hackysack to realize the waste of the drug wars; not to mention how they've resulted in a disturbing accumulation of federal powers (mandatory minimums, asset forfeiture, a paramilitary DEA to name but a few). If Washington and Colorado, or any other state, wants to legalize weed for recreational purposes, a good conservative should want DC to butt the hell out.

Virginia's Cuccinelli Cool With Cannabis?

Feb 8, 2013 2:00 PM PT

It would seem that Virginia Attorney General and candidate for governor, Ken Cuccinelli thinks states should "experiment" (there's a pun in there somewhere right?) with legalizing marihuana. "I don't have a problem with states experimenting with this sort of thing. I think that's the role of the states," Cuccinelli said.
