On Killing Bin Laden: "Is this how America treats its heroes?"

Feb 11, 2013 9:59 AM PT

If you read anything today, anything at all, you must read this piece.

The Man Who Killed Osama bin Laden... Is Screwed

"As I watched the Shooter navigate obstacles very different from the ones he faced so expertly in four war zones around the globe, I wondered: Is this how America treats its heroes? The ones President Obama called "the best of the best"? The ones Vice-President Biden called "the finest warriors in the history of the world"?

Nancy Pelosi, prophet of ruin

Feb 11, 2013 9:33 AM PT

During a radio interview this morning, I was asked if I thought Nancy Pelosi was nuts for saying during a Fox News interview on Sunday, "It's almost a false argument to say we have a spending problem.  We have a budget deficit problem that we have to address."

She's not nuts, although when she says stuff like this, it sounds appropriately deranged.  She's only delivering a blunt summary of Democrat Party orthodoxy, which holds two core beliefs about the deficit:

Empowerment for the "Julia" set

Feb 11, 2013 9:16 AM PT

In response to Julia, Get Your Gun!:

The seeming paradox between talk of feminist "empowerment" and government dependency is easily resolved by realizing that the Left has sold many women a sense of empowerment in the Rousseau sense of authenticity.  The government "empowers" them to express themselves and take charge in areas that really matter by providing for those basic needs of education, finance, health, etc.  This is the rationale of "positive rights" - no one is truly "free" who must worry about the roof over her head, or the bread upon her table.

Allen West's Unquestionable Fundraising Ability

Feb 10, 2013 12:12 PM PT

If you tally up all of the total receipts from all of the Republican candidates who ran for Congress in the 2012 Republican primary election, and then the  total receipts of those candidates who then went on to run in the general election, the total amount of receipts for Republicans was$54,567,657.  Of the $54 million raised, Allen West’s $19 million garnered roughly  35.5% of that total!

Congressmen Squeezed by Student Loan Debt

Feb 10, 2013 10:35 AM PT

The Center for Responsive Politics recently released the names of sitting U.S. Senators and Congressmen who have outstanding college loans. The analysis reveals that the student loans taken out by members of Congress add up to somewhere between 1.8 million and 4.3 million dollars. The list of names is bipartisan. And most of the loans taken out were for the lawmakers themselves, their children or their spouses education.

This story seems replete with all kinds of irony.

Weed May Lead to a Conservative Majority

Feb 8, 2013 6:44 PM PT

In response to 420 For the GOP: Iowahawk, I totally agree. And in the famous words of Andre 3,000, "Marijuana illegal but cigarettes cool, I might look kinda funny but I ain't no fool."

The GOP should take Cuccinelli's lead. The prohibition on pot produced the same faux free market for marijuana that the 18th Amendment did for booze. Let's face it, weed is aplenty, cheap and easy to find. Drugs are winning the War on Drugs. And most marijuana laws are as ceremonial as immigration laws. There's also an opportunity here with voters 18-40, that the GOP is once again sleeping on. And at least two Democratic lawmakers are reading the electoral tea leaves.

Dr. Carson's Speech is a Sensation

Feb 8, 2013 6:24 PM PT

In response to God Spoke Through Ben Carson at National Prayer Breakfast.....In Front Of Obama!:

Sonnie, I posted that yesterday at Nice Deb, (meant to post it, here too, but got busy), and I can't believe the almost visceral response it is getting everywhere. It's being tweeted and facebooked and posted all over the internet. My stats are going through the roof. Breibart's stats are going to go through the roof now too, because everybody wants to watch this speech over and over again.
