The S*** B***

Re: The Game Whose Name You Can't Say

I stopped watching football this year and like anyone who quits something I have all this uppity attitude about it, so I'll call it "Top Chef for Straight Dudes."

The Game That Dares Not Speak Its Name

Legal question for the editors:

I was considering writing something about Sunday's S**** B***, but according to the ads I've seen lately, the broadcast or printing of this term is now forbidden. Apparently it's a word like "Beetlejuice," and if you say it 3 times the ghost of Pete Rozelle will return and haunt you in copyright court.

Quick, If You're At Home, Put on the Golf Channel -- Phil Mickleson is Two Birdies Away from a 58

Jan 31, 2013 12:16 PM PT

Would be the first 58 in PGA history. He's in range for the first of the two birdies.

Update: Damnit, he shorted it, I think he's trying for par now from inches away.

Sorry, looks like I put out an alert and it's not going to happen.

Okay, so unless he gets an eagle (two under par on a par 4) he can't do it.  A birdie now gets him 59, par gets 60.

Dr. Phil: Te'o hoaxer 'deeply, romantically in love' with Te'o

Jan 30, 2013 1:04 PM PT

So, Dr. Phil is now doing what Dr. Phil does best: injecting maudlin romance into a pathetic and degraded story. According to Dr. Phil, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who pretended to be a woman in order to seduce Notre Dame star Manti Te’o online, then hoaxed Te’o into claiming that this fake girlfriend had died of leukemia, was “deeply, romantically in love” with Te’o. Said Dr. Phil: “I asked him straight up, ‘Was this a romantic relationship with you?’ And he says yes. I said, ‘Are you then therefore gay?’ And he said, ‘When you put it that way, yes.’ And then he caught himself and said, ‘I am confused.’”

The attempt to grant airtime to a pathetic specimen of humanity has become knee-jerk with the media. Tuiasosopo is a twisted individual no matter how you slice it. Had Te’o been a female and had Tuaisosopo masqueraded as a male and pursued the same shtick, there is little doubt that the media would label Tuaisosopo a predator. But in true Jim McGreevey fashion, claiming you’re gay rights all wrongs and makes you a victim rather than a perpetrator.
