Texas Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) released a document on May 7 titled “The Legal Limit Report No. 4: The Obama Administration’s Abuse of Power,” which lists 76 of President Obama’s “lawless” actions
Breitbart Texas obtained a copy of Cruz’s report, which stated, “The President’s taste for unilateral action to circumvent Congress should concern every citizen, regardless of party or ideology.
Cruz’s office told Breitbart Texas, “Rule of law is extremely important to Senator Cruz and he believes all administrations, no matter from what party, should be held accountable to following the rule of law and tenants of the Constitution. He will continue working to shine a light on this administration’s lawlessness as long as it continues.”
Cruz said in the report, “Rather than honor his duty, President Obama has openly defied it by repeatedly suspending, delaying, and waiving portions of the laws that he is charged to enforce. When President Obama disagreed with federal immigration laws, he instructed the Justice Department to cease enforcing the laws. He did the same thing with federal welfare law, drug laws, and the federal Defense of Marriage Act. In more than two centuries of our nation’s history, there is simply no precedent for the White House wantonly ignoring federal laws and asking others to do the same.”
“An imperial presidency threatens the liberty of every citizen,” Cruz said. “Because when a president can pick and choose which laws to follow and which to ignore, he is no longer a president.”
The Senator then listed the 76 supposedly lawless power grabs by Obama, which were each placed in one of the following categories: Governing by Executive Fiat, National Security, Obamacare, Economy, Executive Nominees and Personnel, Free Speech and Privacy, Other Lawless Acts, Other Abuses of Power.
Here are just 10 of Obama’s actions that Cruz took issue with:
“Implemented portions of the DREAM Act, which Congress rejected, by executive action.”
“Killed four Americans overseas in counter-terrorism operations without judicial process.”
“Extended the deadline to enroll in Obamacare.”
“Illegally delayed Obamacare verification of eligibility for healthcare subsidies.”
“Illegally required people to violate their faith via the Obamacare contraception mandate.”
“Illegally targeted conservative groups for heightened IRS scrutiny.”
“Secretly obtained phone records from staff at the Associated Press.”
“Threatened to arrest military priests for practicing their faith during the partial government shutdown.”
“Illegally sold thousands of guns to criminals, in the operation known as Fast and Furious, and then refused to comply with congressional subpoenas about the operation.”
“Illegally revealed the existence of sealed indictments in the Benghazi investigation.”
