ACORN & Pigford: Government As Political Slush Fund

May 1, 2013 3:59 PM PT

I remember sitting in the basement of Andrew's home, briefing him on the activist group ACORN, of which I was regrettably too familiar. Andrew would look up from his screen, imploring, "How is that possible? Why does nobody know about this?" Andrew had recently come into possession of the now famous O'Keefe videos and I was his friend who had spent years fighting the corrupt organization.

Years later, the roles would reverse and I would respond during several late night calls, "that can't be right" has Andrew detailed the Pigford fraud. Being around DC a long time, I vaguely remembered news reports about the original Pigford settlement but thought it was cordoned safely in the past. I couldn't believe there was a new effort to reopen the federal coffers nor how blatant it had become. Very soon, though, I realized Andrew was onto something. At the old BigGovernment site, we detailed the potential fraud and Andrew urged everyone he knew to take the story seriously. Even allies in conservative media largely ignored the story. After Friday's expose of Pigford fraud in The New York Times no one can ignore it now.

Flashback: PA Senator Bob Casey Voted to Continue Funding ACORN

Oct 31, 2012 4:26 PM PT

A video showing Pennsylvania’s hard-left Sen. Bob Casey (D) praising ACORN, America’s foremost proponent of voter fraud and mortgage mischief, disappeared recently just in time for next week’s critical election.

Casey appears in the 2008 video praising the gangster group known by the acronym ACORN, a radical socialist organization that used to employ President Obama. In the video dated May 12, 2008, called “ACORN Grassroots Democracy Campaign,” he hails the now-bankrupt Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

Watchdog: ACORN Back With 174 Rebranded Affiliates

Aug 23, 2012 11:07 AM PT

Remember when Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) supposedly disbanded in the wake of the James O’Keefe-Hannah Giles video investigation showing ACORN, a largely government-funded entity, helping people they thought to be pimps and prostitutes avoid tax penalties for engaging in sex trafficking?

They’re back.

ACORN Fundraiser's Journo Org Smears True the Vote

Aug 22, 2012 2:39 PM PT

In what appears to be a preview of the race-obsessed, biased "news reporting" of the future, two college students, AJ Vicens & Natasha Khan, manage to further the partisan agenda of vote fraud deniers while languishing over imagined racial injustice.

Their article, "Voters feel intimidated by election observers," published in the Tucson Sentinel, targets the Houston-based group True the Vote. According to these reporters, the group implements intimidation tactics such as strategically placing white people with pencils in black neighborhoods. They claim that these intimidating soccer moms, dads, and grandmas are part of a gang of election observers that True the Vote plans to place across the country.

ACORN Offshoot Sues Massachusetts for Failing to Register Welfare Recipients

Jun 9, 2012 2:39 PM PT

Think ACORN is defunct and no longer able to exert its corrupt influence in the 2012 presidential election campaign? Think again. Splintered across the country into dozens of difficult-to-track state organizations, the ACORN network is now working hand-in-hand with the Holder Department of Justice (DOJ) to register voters to help Obama retain power in November.

In fact, according to The Associated Press, one of the ACORN offshoots, New England United 4 Justice (NEU4J), recently sued the State of Massachusetts to address the “problem” of registering to vote at welfare and DMV offices:

Massachusetts citizen and community groups are suing the state for allegedly failing to offer recipients of public assistance help in registering to vote.

The suit was filed in federal court on Tuesday (May 15) by the regional office of the NAACP, the group New England United for Justice and Bethzaida Delgado, a Massachusetts woman who said she was repeatedly denied voter registration services.

The suit alleges that Secretary of State William Galvin's office and the state Department of Transitional Assistance violated the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 by failing to offer registration opportunities to the poor.

FOIA Shows Link Between ACORN and NLRB

Apr 28, 2012 8:30 AM PT

Cause of Action, a nonpartisan group that seeks more transparency in government, recently discovered e-mails through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that show linkages between top National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) executives and ACORN, the liberal community organizing group Andrew Breitbart helped expose and eventually put out of business.

As the NLRB was attempting to block Boeing from relocating to the right-to-work state of South Carolina in the spring of 2011, Acting NLRB Counsel LaFe Solomon forwarded an e-mail to NLRB Director of Public Affairs Nancy Cleeland in which ACORN founder Wade Rathke expressed support for the NLRB’s attempts to block Boeing from relocating to the right-to-work state of South Carolina in the spring of 2011, according to information brought to light by the transparency group, Cause of Action.

Democrat Campaign Manager: 'ACORN-style groups' Lied About Voter Contacts in Connecticut

Apr 10, 2012 2:45 AM PT

What to do if you’re running an election campaign and could be inviting scrutiny by having paid ACORN-like groups helping you with your Get Out the Vote efforts? Fortunately, there is some professional advice from an experienced campaign manager on how to cope, now that ACORN is no longer…um… popular.

Dan Kelly, who managed the 2010 election campaign of Democrat and Working Families Party Governor Dannel Malloy of Connecticut, admitted recently, in Campaigns and Elections magazine, that “Connecticut has a long tradition of running horrific paid GOTV programs.” Mr. Kelly describes “mutinous canvassers, ACORN-style groups lying about voter contacts, and local activists demanding cash to pay ‘their people’ on Election Day.”
