PARK RIDGE, N.J. (AP) - A crossing guard was struck and killed in front of a high school by another crossing guard on his way to work, police said.

Estelle Reynolds, 81, was killed Tuesday morning after being struck in a crosswalk by a vehicle driven by Marvin Hodgdon, 70. He was on his way to his crossing guard job in nearby Hillsdale.

Hodgdon told police he didn't see Reynolds, who was wearing high- visibility safety gear in front of Park Ridge High School, police Chief Richard Oppenheimer said.

No criminal charges were filed in the accident.

"The entire town suffers by her loss. She was well-respected and loved by everyone who knew her, and our hearts go out to the family," Mayor Don Ruschman said.

Crisis counselors were made available to some students who witnessed the accident.
